“If you build it, he will come,” the voice from above spoke to Ray Kinsella in the great movie, “A Field of Dreams.” Ray did as instructed, converting a field of corn into a baseball diamond, and Shoeless Joe Jackson, did come, along with lots of other great, long time deceased players. As we conclude the 90th anniversary of the parish of Holy Innocents, I venture to say that Founding Pastor, Msgr. Martin J. Lynch, heard a similar voice in the late 1920’s. Only God changed the “he” into a “they.”
And Monsignor Lynch began building in the 1930’s and did not stop until the rectory was completed in 1956. And for 90 years they have come… you and your classmates came to Holy Innocents Parish and School. And they are still coming. I am very happy to report that our school enrollment is up by 17 students from last year. There are 287 boys and girls currently enrolled. Thanks to our dedicated principal, Sister Regina Mullen, and her very committed staff our school is thriving. And please know that your tuition assistance is helping many afford a Catholic education who could not afford one otherwise.
I am also very happy to inform you that much progress has been made to renovate our now Msgr. Martin J. Lynch Parish Hall. With a new roof, windows, doors, lights, sound system, a fresh coat of paint, a beautiful new vulcanized rubber Mondo floor, the Parish Hall looks great. If you have not seen it yet, plan on attending our All Class Reunion in the Spring to check it out. Your gifts to the Campaign are greatly appreciated.
As you can see with the enclosed Annual Report we have been busy raising money to keep our tuition as affordable as possible. Once again our Appeal this year hopes to raise money for tuition assistance as well as funding toward the completion of the Parish Hall renovation which will include upgrading the bathrooms. Please designate on the enclosed envelope where you wish to direct your donation. Your gift is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for considering this request. And we continue to thank Msgr. Lynch for not only hearing the voice “If you build it, he will come,” but for heeding it.
Rev. Thomas M. Higgins
