It’s been five years since the merger of our five parishes. It has not been an easy five years, especially for those folks who had to say goodbye to the parishes that they grew up in and loved. Although the parishes of Ascension of Our Lord and Mater Dolorosa have been sold, the parishes of St. Joachim and St. Joan of Arc continue as active Worship Sites. The Capuchin friars purchased the convent at St. Joachim several years ago and are providing a very solid ministry to the needy in Frankford. Sister Linda Lukiewski, SSJ, is coordinating our Worship Site at St. Joan of Arc, where we celebrate two Sunday Masses each week and offer many programs to those in the Harrowgate neighborhood.
The re-configured Holy Innocents Parish has doubled in size and consists of over 3,000 families. Culturally the parish is about 65% Latino, 10% Vietnamese, with the remaining folks from over 15 countries. Our school has had a steady enrollment of 280-285 students for the past few years. Our special education schools of St. Lucy Day School for the visually impaired and Archbishop Ryan for the hearing impaired have a combined enrollment of 40 students. Following a very successful 90th year of celebrations and the dedication of our newly renovated Msgr. Lynch Hall, Holy Innocents continues as a beacon of hope for Juniata and beyond.
As this year’s Annual Report demonstrates, we continue to rely on our many generous benefactors to assist our efforts over the course of the year. I write to express my sincere gratitude to all who have been able to assist us. Once again, please consider a gift to Holy Innocents. Much of the money we receive from our donors will go toward tuition assistance which helps our families greatly in affording a Catholic education for their children. We are also in the process of upgrading our technology capabilities for the school and we are in conversation with our Advisory Board to explore other educational enhancements including a STEM or STEAM lab for our students. Your gift at this time will help us determine and achieve our future goals.
I hope to see you in the new year on April 6 as we welcome Jerry Blavat to the stage of Holy Innocents for a night of music and dancing and on September 28 for our annual Golf Tournament. Until then, may God continue to bless you and your loved ones.
